The Fuente Las Donas spring is on the Route of the Springs, which in turn is part of the Nacimiento Ravine Route. It is a periurban spring, within touching distance of the town, that provides a nice family outing.
The Fuente Las Donas spring and its recreational area form a beautiful and magical environment with lush vegetation. The rock underlying the La Muela de Cortes-Caroig Massif is limestone, which is prone to forming caves and to creating springs such as that of Las Donas, which, along with the spring of Los Escalones, was essential for supplying the town’s water up until the last century. There is an attractive waterfall here, its water flows into a pool where nature has carved out a small hollow, which in turn feeds the irrigation channel leading to the old Moorish-origin vegetable plots of Llano-Solana, which are also enriched with the contribution of the spring itself.
The shady vegetation and the riverside woodland of the Donas Spring recreational area has created an idyllic place that resembles a small Mediterranean rainforest. Also, the passage of the water and the solidification of calcium carbonate on the rock have formed fanciful geological formations. Much has been written regarding the name of the spring; however, the most logical origin may be that Dones is the word in old Aragonese for women; making this the spring of the women.
