The museum offers an exhibition of liturgical objects that have served the worship in the Parish of Navarrés throughout its history.
The first thematic area of the exhibition is about the Virgin and the saints, where a polychrome wood carving of Our Lady of the Rosary from the 17th century is displayed, whose devotion was especially promoted by the Order of Preachers during the Counter-Reformation period, and a sculpture of Archangel Saint Raphael from the 18th century.
The second thematic area, dedicated to the liturgy, exhibits pieces of silversmithing, among which stand out a lignum crucis, silver chrismatories, and a peace holder from the 18th century, various chalices, and some devotional books dedicated to spreading piety to the saints.
The third area is dedicated to the Eucharist, where a set of the 18th century is exhibited with its chasuble, cope, shoulder cloth, and dalmatics.
In the sacristy, there is an 18th-century chest of drawers presided over by a polychrome wood carving of Christ, a carving from the 17th century belonging to the Castilian school, recently acquired. There are also some old photographs on display showing various aspects of the temple; disappeared sculptures, such as the Christ of Health from the 17th century and Our Lady of Remedy from the 16th century, as well as various images of solemn celebrations taken in the first decades of the 20th century.
One of the most important exhibition rooms is the sanctuary, from the 18th century, in Baroque style and perfectly preserved, which mainly houses religious silversmithing, contextualized in its beautiful architecture full of Eucharistic symbolism.
The Museum is annexed to the Parish Church, in Baroque style, built between 1746 and 1756 on the ruins of the original church, which in turn was built on the ruins of the ancient Arab mosque.
Accessing it from the exhibition rooms, we can appreciate the majestic mural paintings of the transept in the pendentives of the dome, representing the four evangelists, from the 18th century, by an unknown author. And together with them, forming a set, is the medallion of the presbytery vault, representing “The Coronation of the Virgin Mary”, also from the same period and style.
The tour is completed with the visit to the Hermitage of Christ of Health, also from the 18th century and in the same style as the Parish Church. From there, you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the town and the valleys surrounding its municipal area.
