Gorgo de la Escalera Pool (Anna)

Gorgo de la Escalera pool is located a few metres from the entrance to the town of Anna and takes its name from the 136 stairs leading to the pool. Prior to the construction of the stairs at this entrance, it was known as Gorgo del Salto, the pool of the waterfall. It is a large canyon carved out by the waters of the River Anna, a tributary of the Sellent River, where a dam was built that holds the waters of the river for industrial use, before they drop for a height of 25 metres at what is known as El Salto, the waterfall. It forms part of the Route of the Three Waterfalls, alongside the Gorgo Gaspar and the Waterfall of the Vikings.

The water from the flow of the Gorgo de la Escalera once fed one of the four paper mills that the botanist Cavanilles documented at the end of the 18th century. At the start of the 20th century the company Volta installed a power station in the old El Salto paper mill, taking advantage of the tunnel the former owners built to get water from the Gorgo de la Escalera and the impressive waterfall.

Do not miss the chance to dive into its cool waters, or simply enjoy the sound of the water and relax while contemplating the landscape. However, the area does not have lifeguard supervision and swimming will be under your own responsibility.
